Pop Swap supporting Manchester’s homeless community

Thank you to all who participated in our termly swap last week. Pop Swap has been a regular offering from the Environment Team since 2013, where we have been promoting zero waste and supporting charities with donations of leftovers – ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Over 40 swappers came along, bringing more than 300 items and more than half of them were re-homed on the day. The leftover items have been donated to the British Heart Foundation and Goodstock, a youth charity, with a store on Oxford Road.

We were also collecting for homeless charity Mad Dog Street Project’s sock drive. Items that are usually in short supply were collected to support Manchester’s homeless community. These included 2 boxes of socks, gloves, hats and underwear.

In delivering Pop Swap we work closely with our Student Sustainability Ambassadors. This is a great opportunity for students to gain valuable experience working with sustainability professionals and like-minded students. You can find out more this paid opportunity and get involved here.

The next Pop Swap will be on Wednesday 8th February, more details here. See you there!
