This term there are a number of opportunities to engage with sustainability. These all through our sustainability engagement programme Big Impact.
There are opportunities specifically for students; however, the majority are open to all, from staff, students to local community members.
Below you will find opportunities from gardening to swishing.
Various dates in May & June. Becoming carbon literate is great way to gain knowledge and enhance your employability skills.
11 May. Join us to help us spruce up the orchard for summer, ready for the apple harvest.
26 May. Just Eat It is a documentary exploring the subject of food waste, an issue becoming increasingly important in the UK, as well as in other nations.
27 May & 15 June. This session will show you how to save money and reduce energy, making your home more comfortable, affordable and energy efficient.
1 June. Exchange old for new and support local charities through our termly swish.
1 June. South Lancashire Bat Group will be leading a guided walk around Birley Campus so you can find out about bats (and hopefully hear some!)
8 June. We will be harvesting our lovely plums and cherries, pruning, weeding and installing maggot traps.
9 June. Join us for a visit to a local Recycling Centre to see how the wonderful world of waste works!
15 June. Oxford Road Corridor’s annual cycle event hosted by Manchester Met.
16 June. Come along to help us revamp & plant up the garden areas in John Dalton, ready for summer.
12 July. With the guidance of Hulme Community Garden Centre, we will be doing some general maintenance of the John Dalton garden, raised-planters and harvesting some of the edible produce.
